Introduction

Palmarosa or Cymbopogon martini is a species of grass. The Palmarosa grass is of Southeast Asia origin and grows in dry, warm and subtropical regions on loamy soil. It grows well in June and July months. It is native to Southeast Asia, particularly India. It is a straw colour grass with white flowers and fragrant, grassy leaves and is usually cultivated for its oil.

The essential oil of Palmarosa is extracted from the fresh or dry grass which produces a liquid that is pale yellow and has a lemony scent and a rose smell. It has many excellent skin properties and is used as a medicinal aid.

Uses of palmarosa oil:

Aromatherapy uses: It calms our mind and is used as a stress repellent. It is used to counter the effects of physical and mental related problems. It has a cooling and soothing effect on our mind. It is a good remedy for wrinkled skin and when added to the bath water it gives a natural glow to the skin. It rejuvenates and regenerates the skin. It can be also used as a moisturizer. Holistic uses: It contains an active compound called geraniol which is used as a natural mosquito and insect repellent. Its rosy scent helps in combating depression. It acts as an antiseptic, antibacterial and disinfectant.
